A wonderful idea for a book doesn't always work, but this one does. Le Guin, famous for her fantasy and science fiction, is the better known of these writers to American audiences, but Bellessi is well known in her native Argentina. Here each translates the other's work, with rich and compelling results. Bellessi is a casually sensuous poet of adventure and passion; Le Guin is a poet of mythic reach. More than two-thirds of the book is devoted to Bellessi's work, so it should serve as an excellent introduction for North American readers. The selection of Le Guin's poems, from a number of books, is surprisingly effective, revealing themes that might have passed unnoticed had these particular poems remained scattered in different volumes. Synopsis

Two internationally acclaimed poets interpret each other's work into their native language in an effort at bridging cultural gaps between their respective countries and promoting cross-cultural understanding. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
In The Twins, The Dream/Las Gemelas, El Sueño, two distinguished literary voices of the Americas offer a heartfelt meditation on language, love, personal identity, and the transforming power of friendship. The two authors, Diana Bellessi and Ursula K. Le Guin have translated each other's work as a means of bridging geographical distances and fostering cross-cultural dialog. More than a composite anthology, more than a joint translation, The Twins, The Dream/Las Gemelas, El Sueno is a model of the kind of poetry suitable for a new century in which the literature and art of this hemisphere will form the basis for integration rather than division.
